Goodbye Arlene

In 1976 I joined Arlene Schnitzer's "Fountain Gallery" as a young artist, just a few weeks after graduating from PSU's MFA program. One of only a handful of female artists in the gallery, Arlene took me under her wing and showed me how to be a professional artist. Even though she closed the gallery 10 years later, from that time on she has continued to be a role model, mentor, patron, and friend.

It's with huge sorrow I post her passing at the age of 91 on April 4th, 2020.

These photos are from our last encounter which was in November at the opening of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at PSU. She was so happy to see me across the room and called out to me. The crowd waiting to greet her pulled our moment away but she wouldn't let go of my hand.

Now It's me that doesn't want to let go of her!
